Thank you, Dr. Sannar.
I grew up in Los Angeles in the 1950's. My parents were members of Religious Science of Mind and we often attended church at Grauman's Chinese Theater. My father's Aunt and Uncle had told Mom about the teachings of Ernest Holmes. She was intrigued so they gave her the Science of Mind book. Mom told me many years later that reading the Science of Mind book was like finding an old friend because it echoed and expanded on concepts she had pondered for years. She said she had inherently believed those things for years; she was thrilled to find a community of people who thought this way.
When we were small children, Mom was the avid SOM student in the family. She applied its teachings to her daily life. Dad was a loving parent, too. Mom was the consistent source of positive thinking and unconditional love. We knew we were very fortunate kids.
One day when I was a teenager, I came to her with what was an emotional crisis and which at that time seemed insurmountable. Mom sat me down at the kitchen table and calmly instructed me how to apply a healing to the situation. She wrote down the steps so I would not forget them. I followed through with them. Mom realized I was ready to consciously commune with the Divine Source to bring about a healing in my daily life. The manifestation served as an awakening for me and has served me well.
Many years later I moved to Burlington, Vermont. In 1989, Mom moved there to be near my husband and me. In the year 2000, Mom was diagnosed with an auto-immune condition that left her physically weak. Although homebound, she lived independently in her townhouse until she passed a few years later, and thankfully her mind remained lucid. Just before she passed she looked into my eyes and said, "It's my time. I'm ready to go." She told me that her Mother was right there with her. I am forever grateful to have heard her say those words.
At Mom's Testimonial Service, a young man from her neighborhood stood up to speak. He said: "During Esther Ramey's illness, I would occasionally come by to visit because I figured she might be lonely and down. What I found is that she cheered me up. I would sometimes come by with a friend or two and we'd enjoy talking with Esther about creative thinking and the Universe. We had gone there to lift her spirits, but she always lifted our spirits."
You wrote to thank me for my contribution. I thank you for your contribution to SOM. It's wonderful to have the works of Dr. Holmes accessible on the internet.
Sincerely,
Karen
