FOREWORD
There are certain ideas we are all familiar with, but we seem not to believe
them, or are prone to pay little attention to them.
As a man thinketh in his heart so is he and It is done unto us as we believe
are two thoughts which appear to be controlling factors in our lives. Actually,
they may be considered as immutable laws of the universe.
It is out of the belief held in our minds and hearts that there issues the
nature of the life that we live. But we do not always believe this hence we
encounter many experiences in living that are not to our liking.
A careful search has been made of the writings of Ernest Holmes, the
outstanding metaphysical leader of our day, and there have been selected
certain passages dealing with belief: The Foundation, The Uses, and The
Application.

THE FOUNDATION
Mind is the only creative agency known to science, to philosophy, or to
religion. Mind in Its conscious state is synonymous with Spirit; Mind in Its
subjective state, reacting creatively to the will or imagination of Spirit, is
Law; the result is form.
In the Beginning
We have as the original starting point of all creation pure Spirit, positive
Intelligence, and unformed stuff; and it is impossible to conceive of the
initial movement of creation as being anything other than the action of pure
Spirit or positive Intelligence operating, through Law, upon unformed stuff.
In no way does this disclaim or repudiate what we call the physical universe;
rather, it includes the physical and the mental within the spiritual, and
senses a Unity running through all variety, a fundamental Oneness joining
all apparently isolated facts into one unitary Wholeness.
