ONLY ONE HEALING AGENCY

When our insurance agent calls upon us to discuss our insurance policy, we do not confuse the agent with the insurance. He is simply a representative of an idea. In exactly the same light we must realize that the medical doctor, psychologist, dentist, and others engaged in therapy, are agents. They are not the healing agency itself. They are representative of that which heals, but they do not do the healing. There is but one universal healing agency and all who practice the healing arts work for it and with it.

We see this evidenced in every form of nature. When lightning strikes a tree and tears a branch from it, the healing agency of nature covers the wound, replaces the actual cell structure that has been torn and broken, so that the natural processes of the tree can continue uninterrupted. When a rose is plucked from the bush, the healing agency of nature protects the wound and the bush continues to grow and produce blossoms.

We have heard that time heals all things. When we see the universal healing agency at work we see how true this is. Time, in a sense of the word, is the great physician, because time and life are lost in the identification of oneness. Depression, grief, war and disease, all fall before the scythe of time.

But modern science has made us impatient. We are equipped with knowledge that has made us ill content to wait for time to heal all things. We think of the work which Jesus did, how he healed people instantly of every form of disease. We remember his promise that “greater works than these shall ye do." And every person reaches out toward the doing of these greater works.

HOW JESUS HEALED

In this divine discontent we have developed techniques to hasten the healing processes. The medical doctor, through experiment, research and practice, has developed definite techniques that enable him to cooperate with the universal healing agency more efficiently. The psychologist likewise has developed definite techniques that enable him to cooperate with the universal healing agency. We see that Jesus also had a technique. Most of us do not have the time nor the direction of interest to become acquainted with the medical doctor's techniques, and few wish to give the time to learn the techniques of the psychologist. But at this point we see where every man can be a practicing physician, for it lies within the province of each to observe and use the techniques which Jesus used in his ministry of healing.

Firstly, he had cleared his own thought of any fear or doubt concerning his unity with God. Secondly, he identified himself so completely with “The Father" that when he spoke his words were as though they came from the very voice of the Infinite. Thirdly, it would be a misnomer to say that Jesus had an expectant attitude or that he expected results when he prayed. His expectancy was developed to the state of certainty. He knew that when he spoke his healing word "signs would follow."

These simple yet profound steps are for everyone of us to use. Each may say with certainty, "The Father and I are one." Each may then declare wholeness and health for himself or another with the calm assurance that the Father within "doeth the works." And each has the spiritual right not only to expect results, but to know they will come forth.
